Latido Films acquires international sales rights to Jim Sheridan’s Re-creation

Latido Films has acquired international sales rights to Re-creation, the upcoming docudrama directed by Jim Sheridan (In The Name of The Father).

Sales agent Latido Films has acquired Re-creation for international sales. The film is co-directed and co-written by Jim Sheridan and David Merriman (The State of Being Human), and stars Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread).

Re-creation is centred around the murder of French film and TV producer Sophie Toscan du Plantier in 1996. The murder took place in West Cork, when she travelled alone to her holiday home in Schull. Twenty-eight years later the case remains unsolved. Sheridan has previously covered the same subject matter in his documentary series Murder at the Cottage.

The film blends documentary and drama elements, introducing a fictional jury in the vein of Sidney Lumet’s 12 Angry Men that are sifting through the facts of the case and trying to come to a consensus. Krieps plays Jury Number 8, which Sheridan describes as “a kind of proxy for Sophie, a kind of a voice for her in the film”. Sheridan himself plays the jury’s foreman, hence why he is co-directing the film, which he explains in an interview with Variety when asked about the division of directing duties:

“I’m in the film as the foreman of the jury. There’s a lot of time when I’m on the floor and Dave [Merriman] is directing but then sometimes I would direct the actors. It's very fluid. There’s no sense of who’s in charge of what. Dave interacted a lot with the crew and camera. We had fun doing it together.”

Tina O’Reilly (A Turning Tide in the Life of Man) is producing for Hell’s Kitchen, and Fabrizio Maltese (The Invitation) will produce for Luxembourg’s Joli Rideau Media. Sheridan is executive producing.

Re-creation is currently in production, and set for a theatrical release in late 2024.
