Principal photography on Father, Mother, Sister, Brother has wrapped in Dublin, with Vicky Krieps and Charlotte Rampling being spotted on location with Cate Blanchett.

Father, Mother, Sister, Brother, the new film from Jim Jarmusch starring Cate Blanchett (Tár), has wrapped filming in Dublin. Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread) and Charlotte Rampling (Dune) were also spotted on location with Blanchett. Details surrounding the film are being kept tightly under wraps, with Blanchett, Krieps, and Rampling being the only known cast members. Blanchett was first spotted filming on Oxmantown Road in Stoneybatter on January 11th, and Krieps and Rampling were seen on set on January 24th.

There is currently no official synopsis for Father, Mother, Sister, Brother. Production began last November in West Milford, New Jersey, and is set to continue filming in Paris this year.

The film is being backed by American production company Animal Kingdom, who produced Jarmusch’s The Dead Don’t Die and Paterson, and French production company CG Cinema.

Jarmusch gave a Screen Ireland Industry Masterclass in Screen 1 in the IFI on Friday, January 26th, hosted by Black ‘47 director Lance Daly. The talk covered Jarmusch’s approach to writing, directing, and making music, but did not cover the filming of Father, Mother, Sister, Brother. The director did, however, make reference to the upcoming film at Overlook Film Festival in April 2023:

“The film we’re preparing now for late this year to shoot, probably, I think, may have no music […] It’s a very subtle film; it’s very quiet. And I think music could move it too much one way — it’s a funny and sad film, right? It sort of has both woven in. I don’t know if I wanna have music to add some other thing over it. It doesn’t really want it so far.”

This is Blanchett’s first time shooting a film in Ireland since 2003’s Veronica Guerin, directed by Joel Schumacher. Krieps is also set to star in Jim Sheridan’s upcoming film Re-Creation, a docudrama centered around the murder of French film and TV producer Sophie Toscan du Plantier in 1996.

Father, Mother, Sister, Brother is set to wrap production later this year.
