Gaeljin Production’s new documentary ‘A Rose to India’ is to screen on RTÉ One on the 16th August at 10.40pm. Produced and Directed by Rossa Ó’Siordáin (Horslips – Rotha Mór An tSaoil) with Ciara McMorrow co-producing, the 49 minute documentary follows the 2010 Rose of Tralee winner Clare Kambamettu on a voyage around India.
On the 18 day Indian tour, Clare Kambamettu was accompanied by her father Ravi, who was born in the Indian town of Hyderabad and who now lives in Athy, Co Kildare. The tour was organised by international development charity VSO, who send volunteers to work long term overseas. The doc follows Clare as she visits several of VSO’s charity initiatives and meets VSO volunteers as they work in cities such as Hyderabad, Berhampur and Delhi.
‘A Rose to India’ highlights the contrasting views of life in India, and Ravi, who was brought up in relative comfort in Hyderabad, sees the scale of poverty in India firsthand. The documentary follows the development of Ravi and Clare’s personal relationship and their relationship with India.
The documentary was written by Horslip and feature film screenwriter Barry Devlin (U2: A Year in Pop) with a voice over by acclaimed actress Lorraine Pilkington (The Clinic, Human Traffic). The documentary was edited at Highwire and was funded by the BAI and RTÉ. Catch ‘A Rose to India’ on Tuesday 16th August at 10.40pm on RTÉ One.
