Gaeljin Productions, a new independent television company founded in 2010 by Rossa O’Síoradoin and Ciara McMorrow has entered post-production with feature documentary, ‘A Rose to India’. The doc follows reigning Rose of Tralee winner, Clare Kambamettu fulfilling her duties as a Rose on a trip to India.
Directed by Riossa O’Síoradain (Horslips - Rotha Mór An tSaoil), the 52 minute documentary follows the Rose of Tralee 2010, London Rose Clare Kambamettu on a charity trip around India. The project chronicles a return to India for Kambambettu who has been to the country many times, and was joined for the first time by her father Ravi, who was born and raised in the Indian town of Hyderabad and who now lives in Athy, Co Kildare.
The 18-day tour was organised by international development charity VSO and saw Clare visit several of VSO’s charity initiatives in Delhi including initiatives focused on disability, secure living and the SWECHA charity which attempt to secure fair wages for the ‘rag pickers’; people who collect salvageable materials in city dumps to be resold and recycled. The doc will look to highlight the work undertaken by the current Rose and the charity work of VSO.
The documentary is currently being edited at Highwire on Pearse Street and is due to be broadcast on RTÉ as part of its August line-up which will also include coverage of the 2011 Rose of Tralee Festival. ‘A Rose to India’ was granted €85,000 funding by the BAI in February 2011 and is dually funded by the BAI and RTÉ.
