Focus Scannán na hÉireann at the Torino Short Film Market
The Torino Short Film Market will celebrate Ireland as guest country during their 4th edition on Thursday, November 21st 2019.

Supported by Culture Ireland, the Embassy of Ireland to Italy and Screen Ireland, the Focus is curated by the Galway Film Fleadh and will see a large delegation including institutional representatives, film producers, distributors and filmmakers attending the market in full activity.

The Focus Scannán na hÉireann will take place on Thursday, November 21st, starting from 3:00 pm with the screening of the programme Gearrscannáin (Irish Shorts) curated by Eibh Collins and Miriam Allen for the Galway Film Fleadh. The eight shorts on the programme are:

  • Abe’s Story by Adam H Stewart, 2019, 12′ (Screen Ireland)

  • Streets of Fury by Aidan McAteer, 2019, 4’
  • The Vasectomy Doctor by Paul Webster, 2018, 11’ (Screen Ireland)

A panel entitled Green Shoots will follow at 5:30 pm, around the topic “Why Ireland?” discussing how this small country has rooted itself in the heart of the wider European market, focusing on Irish production highlights, examining its stunning location possibilities, film funding opportunities and its rich place in the festival circuit, both at home and in the wider diaspora. The panel will be introduced by Susanna Pellis of Irish Film Festa with contributions from Miriam Allen and Eibh Collins (Galway Film Fleadh), Jennifer Smyth (Screen Ireland), Derry O’Brien (Network Ireland Television), Mick Hannigan (IndieCork) and Tristan Heanue (Actor, Filmmaker and Producer).

A networking reception offered by the Embassy of Ireland to Italy at 6:30 pm, with food and drinks inspired by Irish traditions, will close the day bringing together all the invited professionals and market participants to talk business in a pleasant and informal environment.

A rerun of the market screenings will take place Friday, November 22nd at 6:45 pm while a selection of the best Irish shorts of the year provided by Screen Ireland will remain available on the Video Library for the professional attendees until May 2020.

Also in attendance will be: Ronan Cassidy, Paul Webster (Producer and Director of The Vasectomy Doctor); Fiona Kinsella (Producer of Something Doesn’t Feel Right by Fergal Costello); Lara Hickey, Jack Hickey (Producer and Director of Cynthia); Claire Mc Cabe, Rioghnach Ní Ghrioghair (Producer and Director of Break Us).
