Element Pictures have shared a first look at Ariane Labed’s September Says ahead of the film’s world premiere at the 77th Cannes fIlm Festival today, May 21st.
September Says, an Element Pictures production, is the directorial debut of Ariane Labed. Labed starred in Lanthimos’ first collaboration with Element, The Lobster, and the 2011 Lanthimos-directed film Alps. The feature was filmed in Ireland with backing from Screen Ireland, BBC Film and Mubi among other financiers and will premiere in the Un Certain Regard Section.
The synopsis for Labed’s film is as follows: “Sisters July and September are very close, but very different: September is protective and distrustful; July, open and curious. An incident in school forces them to flee to an old holiday home in Ireland with their mother, where a series of surreal events cause their bond to shift in ways July cannot comprehend.”
September Says is one of three Element Pictures productions premiering at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. Yorgos Lanthimos’ latest collaboration with Element Pictures, Kinds of Kindness, is an official selection for the Main Competition at Cannes, and On Becoming a Guinea Fowl, the second feature film from Zambian/British director Rungano Nyoni, is an official selection in Cannes’ Un Certain Regard section.
