Ideal for actors, writers or people new to film making, this course offers a little bit of everything and then some. Follow the process of film making from concept to edit to screen in a fun, relaxed and practical way. Learn the importance of signs and symbols to tell a story in film and then use your newly acquired skills to apply them in the real world. Participants will discover how directing, acting, sound, music and edit all come together to tell their very own unique story.
Multi-award winning director Noel Brady made his first short film in 2005 named ‘Movers & Shakers’. This was followed in 2007 with his second short film ‘Duality’. In 2009 he won his first award at the ‘Bram Stoker Horror Film Festival’ with ‘Herr Frankenstein’. In 2010 his next film, “An Táin, Darkness Descends”, won two awards, ‘Best Celtic Short’ at the ‘Balinamore International Film Festival 2010’ and ‘Best Editor’ at the ‘Underground Cinema Awards 2011’. His next film ‘True-D’, has thus far won two awards for ‘Best Irish Short’ at the ‘Dublin International Short Film and Music Festival 2012’ and ‘Best Director’ at ‘LIT Limerick International Film Festival 2013’. Noel is currently writing his first feature film due to start production in early 2014.
Participants of the Introduction to Film Making can expect to learn:
• Signs and symbols to tell story through the visual and auditory medium in film
• The importance of writing and storyboarding
• What is involved in producing a film from concept to the first days production
• How to tell your story and shoot your scene

The Gaiety School of Acting -New! Make a Move

With this hands on, practical course, students will learn how to create a short independent film from scratch. Whether you’re interested in screenplay writing, acting, film directing, cinematography or production design, this programme is just for you! Led by experienced industry professionals, the group will be guided through the process of brainstorming the initial concept of your movie right through to filming the final scene. Participants will receive a DVD of the movie upon completion of
the course.
Please note that this course will take place over 7 weeks with an additional full day (6 hours) shoot, possibly on location, on the following weekend. Final date to be coordinated with tutor.
Participants of the Make A Movie course can expect to learn:
• How to develop an idea for your movie
• How to storyboard and write for the screen
• The importance of narrative, characters, mood, climax and resolution
• How to develop an aesthetic for your film
• The importance of cinematography and production design
• Acting techniques specific to screen

This course is designed to emphasize the skills and attention to detail required for make-up application for film, high-definition television, print photography, advertising, and theatrical makeup.
This courses takes students through modules of High Definition TV & Film makeup, from male grooming, glamour high definition makeup, period makeup, period hair styling from 1920’s – 1960’s, special effects; skin defects, casualty and death effects, latex & plastic bald cap making, facial hair, theatrical makeup, airbrushing, body painting to facial sculpting.
Students will work with a variety of different product such as gelatine, latex, wax, silicone, in moulding, painting and sculpting their desired look.
This course not only focuses on the technique of high definition makeup for tv & film but also from the start brings students through phases of project conceptualisation, make-up design, set etiquette, film terminology, script breakdown, working to a budget and working with a director and other departments on set.
The impressive calibre of tutors who teach this course are all working professionals across the entertainment world with experience in creating award-winning special effects on blockbuster movies, short films, TV adverts and celebrity clientele.
This course is ran over 20 weeks full time and can be completed as 1 course or over 18 singular modules.

In this Adobe Authorised Training, students will learn the key techniques for working in After Effects and how to work efficiently and deliver in the widest possible range of media types. In addition to learning the key elements of the After Effects interface, topics that will be covered include animating text, working with shape layers and masks, the puppet tool, color correction, 3D objects, advanced editing techniques as well as rendering and output.
Each student will receive the official Adobe After Effects course manual and an Adobe certificate of completion.

As part of an initiative to deliver targeted training interventions for production personnel and crew, Screen Training Ireland is scheduling a number of production-related evening seminars in 2014 that will enable crew to come together and discuss industry developments and issues, and hear from top production talent on a host of practical and creative issues including legal and contractual issues, HR and career development, core production skills, and masterclasses with international HODs.
Production Club kicks off with a seminar on Copyright, Clearances and Music Licensing. Increasingly, these issues affect all production personnel, and an understanding of the fundamentals of this area is a growing concern. This seminar will provide an overview of copyright, clearances and music licensing as they relate to production.

Business Affairs, Element Pictures) in Galway in January 2014. This talk
would be suited to those who work in production or those with an interest in
film-making. It will cover topics such as:
* What is copyright?
* Contracts
* Setting up a production company
* Option agreements
* Screenplay Agreements
* Music copyright and clearances
* IFB funding requirements

About the Tutor:
Mark Byrne joined Element Pictures in June 2012 to take up
a new role of Head of Business Affairs. Recent projects that Mark has
worked on for Element include Quirke a 3 x 90 television series for the BBC
starring Gabriel Byrne, Frank, a feature film directed by Lenny Abrahamson
starring Domhnall Gleeson, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Michael Fassbender, Jimmy's
Hall a co-production with Sixteen Films directed by Ken Loach and Citizen
Charlie a 3X90 series about Charles Haughey starring Aidan Gillen for RTÉ.
Mark has over 14 years experience working in the film and TV business and
for 6 years worked with Bord Scannáin/the Irish Film Board as
initially Business & Legal Executive and subsequently Head of Legal Affairs.
