lagship project of the Nerve Centre, Foyle Film Festival's 27th annual edition launches on November 19 and runs until November 23. The festival's 2014 education programme spans November 18-27.

A host of Hollywood names joined the line-up for last year's festival, including, Oscar® winning director Danny Boyle in conversation with BAFTA nominated screenwriter Frank Cottrell Boyce while Pulitzer Prize winning writer and actor Sam Shepard will attend a screening of his classic movie, Paris, Texas in Brunswick Moviebowl on Friday November 22.

Highlights included; a special 40th anniversary, never-before-seen in UK cinemas, screening of The Wicker Man. Featuring brand new extras and the soundtrack, this is every movie fans perfect ending to a much mythicised search for the most complete version of the cult-classic film.

Elsewhere programme standouts ranged from Irish premieres of two brand new Disney features, Oscar-nominated animated adventure Frozen and the Tom Hanks-starring Saving Mr Banks to Enniskillen filmmaker Stephen Fingleton being in for Oscar consideration after his gripping feature SLR was named Best Irish Short Film at Foyle's LIM Awards.

The chain of title in film refers to a series of contracts and documents that establish the production company or filmmaker owns and/or has a sufficient licence to use all elements of the film or television programme that are attract legal protection through copyright or other intellectual property rights.
The so-called “chain” runs from the current owner at any given time, back to the original owner of the intellectual property rights in the production. Thus, this collection of documents may continue to grow over time.

A clean chain of title is essential to obtain development or production financing; to obtain a pre-sale advance from a broadcaster; to conclude a sales or distribution deal enter into a co-production arrangement with another production company.

This seminar will explore the following topics: Financiers’ requirements in relation to chain of title Understanding copyright Copyright Registration Understanding the difference between assignments and licences The essential elements in any contract Common chain of title agreements:

Showrunning, creative production, line producing and crowd funding are just some of the areas which will be examined in Galway Film Centre’s Annual Film & TV Seminar this November 27th/28th. Many special guests from around the world will attend including Beau Willimon, showrunner on House of Cards, Claire Jennings, BAFTA winning producer of Coraline and The Curse of the Were Rabbit and Finola Dwyer, Oscar nominated producer of An Education and Brooklyn.

An in depth interview will be conducted with Beau Willimon about his work as creator, writer and executive producer on House of Cards. The TV drama, starring Kevin Spacey, was the first in Netflix’ line of original programming and represents a bold new business model for TV and film production. At 36, Beau is one of the youngest showrunners in the US and has also written The Ides of March starring George Clooney. Beau will be interviewed by Felim McDermott (GMIT lecturer).

This one day course suits those new to digital video editing, digital educators and existing iPad videographers.

It provides experience in importing footage from multiple sources including other iDevices, organising said footage and editing an interview-based piece using the iMovie for iPad app.

Principles of editing will be discussed throughout particularly in relation to cutaways and background music. Attendees will gain confidence in applying and customising the preset transitions and titles offered in iMovie for iPad. Finally, guidance on how to share your work to master files, mobile devices and contemporary social media outlets will be given.

This two day course suits both those new to digital video editing and existing editors familiar with other track-based non-linear editing platforms who wish diversify their editing skills and become competent Final Cut Pro X. Using the very latest version (10.1) and under the guidance of Northern Ireland’s only Apple Certified Trainer in Final Cut Pro X (Levels 1 and 2), participants will learn the media management and metadata foundations of FCPX that enables the hyper-efficient sifting of clips, the lightning-fast production of rough cut edits,  projects polished with animation, titles and effects and how to share your work to master files, mobile devices and contemporary social media outlets.
