Fresh Film, an Irish organisation dedicated to supporting and promoting young filmmakers, won the Community Impact Award at the Screen International Global Production Awards, which took place at Cannes Film Festival.
Fresh Film is an organisation based in Limerick, that supports and promotes young filmmakers through various programs and initiatives. The organisation received the Community Impact Award at the Screen International Global Production Awards ceremony in Cannes last week. Nominees included NEOM Media Industries in Saudi Arabia and Osiyo, Voices of the Cherokee People (US).
The award winners are chosen by judges drawn from across the industry, including senior TV and Film producers, production executives and film commissioners.
The judges had this to say about the Limerick-based organisation: “Teaching the next generation of filmmakers at an early age allows the industry to grow from within the community. The hardest thing when growing up with a dream of filmmaking is how to get into what can be a very closed industry. Fresh Film allows for young people to get a taste and training.”
Jayne Foley, the Artistic Director and founder of Fresh Film, accepting the award, said: "Our mission has always been to empower young voices and this award validates our efforts. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the young filmmakers who share their stories with us and continue to inspire us every day.”
She added: "Fresh Film continues to champion the next generation of filmmakers and this honour provides a powerful reminder of the importance of creating a community of young film-makers and supporting their storytelling.”
