St James's Hospital is one of Ireland's largest hospitals.
Last year, a record 400,000 patients were treated here, and this number is rising. In winter, 2018, during the busiest months of the year, the hospital opened it's doors to show us what really happens inside; 2 camera crews were situated in the hospital from January to April, and had the incredible opportunity to film not just the work carried out by the medical staff in the hospital, but also the operational work involved in running a hospital the size of St James's.

'St James's' is a four part series, airing weekly on Virgin Media on Thursday, starting Thursday 6th September at 10pm.
In the first episode of the series, airing Thursday 6th September at 10.00pm, we meet mother of two, 31 year old, Tracie Doolin. Only two months ago, Tracie was diagnosed with cervical cancer. Today, we see her coming into hospital for a radical hysterectomy. This hugely invasive surgery means she will have her cervix, ovaries, uterus and fallopian tubes removed. Mr Feras Abu Saadeh will be leading her operation, and as part of the operation, he must assess whether the cancer has spread further than the parts of Tracie's reproductive system that he is intending to remove. If this is the case, the operation will be stopped, as an operation alone would not be enough to help Tracie.
