IFTN brings you a round-up of Creative Europe’s key updates including Run the Border 2024, Cork International Film Festival submissions, and the launch of Louise Lives Large, RTÉ's biggest ever drama commission for young people.

Run for the Border 2024 - Broaden Your Gaming Network!

  • Run for the Border 2024 will take place in Dundalk on Friday, 10th May. The event is designed to encourage cross-border collaboration and partnerships for game developers on the island of Ireland. Tickets are on sale now with option to include coaches from Derry, Galway, Belfast and Dublin.

    Run for the Border is designed to encourage cross-border collaboration and partnerships for game developers on the island of Ireland. This North-South shindig will be a friendly, social event designed to meet new people over a meal and drinks.

    Transportation to the event will be supported in the form of hired coaches departing from Belfast, Dublin, Derry, and Galway (see below for links). Ticket prices are the same whether you take a seat on a coach or you’re travelling there on your own. Fees go towards covering event costs and any excess will be put toward future events.

    The Teachers’ Lounge wins LUX Audience Award 2024

    The winner of the 2024 LUX Audience Award was announced on the 16th of April in the Hemicycle of the European Parliament in Brussels. Congratulations to the winning film The Teachers’ Lounge directed by Ilker Çatak.

    Co-writer and Director of the winning film İlker Çatak, Writer Johannes Duncker and Producer Ingo Fliess said: “Our heartfelt gratitude to our audience and the esteemed members of the European Parliament. We are deeply honoured by the widespread reception of our film among viewers in Europe and beyond. This recognition underscores the vital role of teachers as the unsung heroes of our society. With utmost respect, we dedicate this award to them.”

    Cork International Film Festival Submissions

    Cork International Film Festival's regular submissions deadline for the 69th CIFF is Friday 17th May. The Festival welcomes submissions of features and shorts, and all forms of film production – fiction, documentary, animation, experimental, etc. They look for interesting new voices and work that pushes boundaries and takes risks.

    CIFF also recognise filmmakers’ achievements through 12 Awards, three of which qualify works for the Academy Award®. CIFF has been supported by Creative MEDIA's Film Festival funding since 2018.

    CIFF Submission Deadlines

    • Friday 17th May – Regular Deadline
    • Friday 12th July – Late Deadline (Features, Feature Documentaries, International Shorts, International Documentary Shorts)
    • Friday 2nd August – Irish Shorts Late Deadline (Irish Shorts, Irish Documentary Shorts, Cork Shorts, Cork Documentary Shorts).

    European & MEDIA Film News

    MEDIA supported films screening this month across Ireland in cinemas and online.

    We also highlight films showing in independent cinemas and cinema clubs that are part of the Europa Cinemas network as well as films promoted by Creative Europe and EU supported initiatives such as European Film Promotion, the European Film Awards, European Cinema Night and the LUX Audience Award.

    Louise Lives Large, RTÉ's biggest ever drama commission for young people, launched on RTÉ2 at 4pm on Wednesday 3rd April, 2024. Louise Lives Large is an 8-part series that tells the story of 13-year-old Louise Edgar (Beth Fallon) who sets out to complete a 'Live Large List' after she recovers from cancer. Louise Lives Large airs at 4pm on RTÉ 2 on Wednesdays, and is also available on the RTÉ Player.
