Writer/director Maggie Gyllenhaal has shared a first look at Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale in The Bride!, a new adaptation of the Bride of Frankenstein. The film is set for theatrical release on October 3rd, 2025.
“Meet The Bride and Frank,” captioned director Maggie Gyllenhaal in an Instagram post sharing a first look at her latest film The Bride!, a new adaptation of The Bride of Frankenstein starring Jessie Buckley (Fingernails) as the titular bride, and Christian Bale (The Dark Knight) as Frankenstein.
The synopsis for the film is as follows: “A lonely Frankenstein travels to 1930s Chicago to seek the aid of a Dr. Euphronius in creating a companion for himself. The two reinvigorate a murdered young woman and the Bride is born. She is beyond what either of them intended, igniting a combustible romance, the attention of the police and a wild and radical social movement.”
Buckley and Bale are joined by a cast that includes Peter Sarsgaard (The Batman), Annette Bening (Nyad) and Penelope Cruz (Volver). Gyllenhall will direct and produce, with Emma Tillinger Koskoff, Talia Kleinhendler, and Osnat Handelsman-Keren producing also.
“It is beyond my wildest dreams getting to go back and work with [Gyllenhaal] again. We really fell in love working on The Lost Daughter,” Buckley said in an interview with Indie Wire. “I feel so grateful that I get to be part of a coin of extraordinary women who have so much to say, such brilliant minds, and such imagination.”
Warner Brothers will release The Bride! on October 3rd, 2025.
