June 1st 2017 Training: Carbon Literacy for Production

The carbon literacy for production course was developed by the Film and TV industry in the UK about two years ago. It aims to provide everyone in the industry with a sound knowledge of the scientific reality of climate change, its impacts and the challenges of the transition to a sustainable future. It also covers what we can do personally in our home life, the policy and business trends that form the background to our industry, before going through the detail of what it means for content producers. The whole afternoon is dedicated to better understanding the range of impacts of Film and TV production, and to presenting the best practice and solutions currently available.

Huston School of Film & Digital Media (NUI Galway) are delighted to welcome Joseph McBride, author of the award-winning biography Searching for John Ford (2001) for a public lecture at the school entitled "John Ford, Irish-American Poet and Comedian”. McBride's talk will take place on Thursday June 15th at 7pm, is free and open to all and will make extensive use of clips from Ford’s Irish films including the Galway-shot Rising of the Moon.

Since 2001, the IFI Documentary Festival has hosted premieres of important Irish documentaries including 'In a House that Ceased to Be', 'War in Eastern Congo', 'How to Defuse a Bomb: The Project Children Story', and 'Mattress Men'. International hits such as 'A Syrian Love Story', 'Muscle Shoals' and Werner Herzog's 'Lo and Behold: Reveries of the Connected World' have all had their Irish premieres at the festival, which has attracted many guests and filmmakers from around the world to present and discuss their work.
