Galway Film Centre: Developing a Short Animation and Getting it Funded

This day-long course will cover how to turn a short film idea into a fully
financed film commission. The day will be spent taking a generated idea
through the three rewrites: on the page, the storyboard, the edit. It will
focus on animation, but the skills can be applied to live-action. The course
is aimed at those who have some knowledge of film/animation/direction and
would like to know more about developing a short film.
About the Tutor:
Damien O'Connor has written and directed four multiple award winning short
films for the Irish Film Board: Mutt, Ledogs, Dick Terrapin and After You.
Twice nominated for an IFTA, Damien also has experience in documentary and
live broadcast. He has worked as an editor on Noddy, Olivia The Pig and The
Octonauts and was retakes supervisor on Doc McStuffins for Disney. Damien
works as a storyboard artist for Brown Bag Films and is currently directing
his fifth short film, Anya, which was commissioned by Irish charity 'To
Russia With Love' to highlight the plight of orphans in Russia.

This 2-day course will look at the role of a production accountant through practical examples.
Day 1 will look at how to budget for a script and prepare it for funding applications.
Day 2 will examine the running of the accounts office and how the accountant monitors costs and produces cost reports in order to track the spend. The script from day 1 will be used as a point of reference for day 2 also.
About the Tutor:
Evelyn McLoughlin is currently Production Accountant on 'Guaranteed', a TV Drama (John Kelleher FIlms). Other recent roles have included working as Assistant Production Accountant on the Ken Loach feature, 'Jimmy’s Hall' (Sixteen Films/Element Pictures) and Production Accountant on 'Get Up & Go' (Fastnet Films). Evelyn also worked as Assistant Production Accountant on 'Single Handed' 2, 3 and 4.

MFI Script 2 Film Workshops is an advanced script & project development program supported by the MEDIA Programme of the EU. It consists of 4 intensive workshops (2 on-location sessions in the Greek islands of Nissyros and Samos, and 2 on-line ones hosted in MFI’s web site) that make up an integrated, half year-long program. 4 One-day Seminars in Screenwriting. These one-day seminars focus on particular areas of Screenwriting – Introduction, to Character, Visual Storytelling and Writing Dialogue. Four seminars on four Saturdays, adding up to an overall introduction to Screenwriting and the whole field of film, TV and digital storytelling. The four Saturdays will add up to a relaxed guided tour of the basic tricks and tools of writing for film. Observations and questions from the participants are very much encouraged.
