A native speaker of Irish from Cois Fharraige in the Galway Gaeltacht, he is Leascheannasaí (Deputy Chief Executive), of TG4. His current responsibilities include corporate affairs and public relations. He has been a senior executive with the station since its inception, was a central figure in advising the Government about the issue in the pre-establishment phase and is regarded as one of the main architects of the TG4 project.
He has extensive experience in broadcasting policy and journalism and had been a central figure in the establishment and development of the Irish language television service. His earlier broadcasting career included stints with Raidió na Gaeltachta, establishing its Dublin bureau, three years as Editor of the RTÉ Nuacht service and playing a key editorial role on the founding team for the flagship breakfast time Morning Ireland radio news program on RTÉ Radio 1.
