UKTV and France Télévisions have pre-bought the upcoming RTÉ Drama The Boy That Never Was, a four-hour drama based on a novel from Karen Perry.
Earlier this year, RTÉ announced the upcoming series The Boy That Never Was, a new drama series adapted from Karen Perry. UKTV and France Télévisions have pre-bought the series. Abacus Media Rights are shopping the series internationally.
The Boy That Never Was follows the story of a three-year old Irish boy who disappears during an earthquake in Morocco. Three years later, his father becomes obsessed that a boy he has spotted in Dublin is his son. The events that follow tears apart his marriage and expose secrets about the night their child went missing (Vikings: Valhalla).
Colin Morgan (Belfast), Toni O’Rourke (God’s Creatures), Kerr Logan (Alias Grace) and Simon Callow (The Witcher) star in the series, directed by Hannah Quinn.
The series was filmed on location in Morocco and Ireland, and is produced by Subotica (North Sea Connection) with support from Screen Ireland. The script is co-written by Jo Spain (Harry Wild) and David Logan (Harry Wild). Subotica’s Aoife O’Sullivan and Tristan Orpen Lynch are executive producing alongside RTÉ’s David Crean and Dermot Horan, and Screen Ireland’s Andrew Byrne.
The series is expected to release in April 2024.
