South by Southwest (SXSW) is a conglomeration of film, interactive media, music festivals, and conferences taking place annually in Austin, Texas. SXSW 2024 takes place March 8th - 16th, and features a variety of Irish talent.
Sound and Colour
Sound and Colour follows Hannah, who returns home to her family after attempting suicide. Believing that a recent breakup is the root cause of her depression, the family avoids talking about the “incident”. The short film is written and directed by Emma Foley (Dead Run), and is produced by Tamryn Reinecke (It Is in Us All). Alison Oliver (Saltburn) stars as Hannah. She is joined by Charlotte Bradley (The Gift), Damien Kearney (The Wind that Shakes the Barley), Aidan Moriarty (Time to Go), Kieran Roche (Lies We Tell), and Emmet Byrne (Burning Wishes).
The Pale Rebel Productions film will have its North American premiere in the Narrative Shorts Competition strand of SXSW.
Oddity
Keeper Pictures’ Oddity will have its World Premiere at the festival. The feature film is written and directed by Damian McCarthy (Caveat), and produced by Katie Holly (Extra Ordinary), Evan Horan (Caveat), Mette-Marie Kongsved (I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore), and Laura Tunstall (Come To Daddy).
Oddity follows a blind medium who uncovers the truth behind her sister's death with the help of a frightening wooden mannequin. The cast includes Gwilym Lee (Bohemian Rhapsody), Carolyn Bracken (An Cailín Ciúin), Tadhg Murphy (The Northman), Caroline Menton (Altar Boys), Steve Wall (The English), Johnny French (The Rock in the Sea), Joe Rooney (Killinaskully), Shane Whisker (The Pope’s Exorcist), and Ivan de Wergifosse (The Last Duel).
The Irish horror will screen as part of SXSW’s Midnighter strand.
3 Body Problem
Netflix’s 3 Body Problem, starring Liam Cunningham, is the Opening Night TV Premiere of SXSW 2024.
The new series, based on the international bestselling book trilogy The Three-Body Problem, comes from Emmy Award-winning writers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss (Game of Thrones). The synopsis of the series is described as follows: “A young woman’s fateful decision in 1960s China reverberates across space and time to a group of brilliant scientists in the present day. As the laws of nature unravel before their eyes, five former colleagues reunite to confront the greatest threat in humanity’s history.”
SXSW 2024 takes place in Austin, Texas from March 8th - 16th, 2024.
