Christina Hendricks (Mad Men) and Paddy Considine (House of the Dragon) are set to star in Small Town, Big Story, a Sky original series written and directed by Chris O’Dowd (Moone Boy).

Small Town, Big Story is a new six-part Sky original series created by Chris O’Dowd, in which an Irish village gets taken over by a Hollywood production, shedding light on “a secret that's been kept hidden since the eve of the millennium”.

The plot synopsis reads “every small town has a story to tell. Some don’t know how to keep a secret …” The new series is described as “a warm and witty, very dramatic comedy”, set in the fictional town of Drumbán, “a rural village of rattled misfits on the border of Ireland and another world”.

Hendricks stars as Wendy Patterson, a television producer who returns to her hometown from L.A., bringing a Hollywood production with her. Considine stars as Drumbán’s local doctor, Seamus Proctor.

Joining Hendricks and Considine are Eileen Walsh (Catastrophe) as Catherine Proctor, the doctor’s wife and local school teacher, Leia Murphy (Fair City) and David Rawle (Moone Boy) as siblings Joanne and Sonny Proctor, as well as Patrick Martins (The Confessions of Frannie Langton), Evanne Kilgallon (Obituary), Andrew Bennett (The Quiet Girl), Ruth McCabe (Aisha), David Wilmot (Station Eleven) and comedian Peter McGann (Picture Day). More casting news is to follow.

Small Town, Big Story was commissioned by Sky Studios. Colin Callender and Scott Huff are executive producing for Playground, Stefanie Berk and Milan Popelka are executive producing for FilmNation Entertainment, and Alex Moody is executive producing for Sky Studios. Hendricks and O’Dowd also serve as executive producers, with Liz Gill serving as series producer. Directors include O’Dowd, Catherine Morshead, Mike Ahern and Enda Loughman.

The series has begun filming on location in Ireland and is expected to debut on Sky and streaming service Now in Ireland and the UK in 2024.
