Three of the six nominees for Best Actor in a Drama Motion Picture at the 81st annual Golden Globes are Irish: Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer), Barry Keoghan (Saltburn) and Andrew Scott (All of Us Strangers). Poor Things, produced by Element Pictures, has seven nominations.
Cillian Murphy, Barry Keoghan and Andrew Scott have all been nominated in the Best Actor in a Drama Motion Picture category at the 2024 Golden Globes. Murphy is nominated for his performance in Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster adaptation of Robert J. Oppenheimer biography American Prometheus. Andrew Scott is nominated for his lead performance in All of Us Strangers, in which he plays opposite Paul Mescal. Barry Keoghan is nominated for his Saltburn performance.
Poor Things, the latest collaboration from Yorgos Lanthimos and Element Pictures has been nominated in seven categories:
- Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy
- Best Director, Motion Picture – Yorgos Lanthimos
- Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy – Emma Stone
- Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture – Willem Dafoe
- Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture – Mark Ruffalo
- Best Screenplay, Motion Picture – Tony McNamara
- Best Original Score, Motion Picture – Jerskin Fendrix
The film received the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival last September.
Among the films with the most nominations are Barbie with 9, followed closely by Oppenheimer with 8. Earlier this year, IFTN broke the news that Barbie had become the highest grossing film in Irish Box Office history.
The Golden Globes ceremony takes place January 7th, 2024.
