The Lovers, a new rom-com series from Northern Irish writer David Ireland, premieres tonight on Sky Atlantic.
Roisin Gallagher (The Dry, The Fall) and Johnny Flynn (Emma, Lovesick) star in David Ireland’s new rom-com series The Lovers, which premieres tonight on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV. Ireland is a Northern Irish playwright and actor, best known for his plays Cyprus Avenue and Ulster American. The series is set and filmed in Belfast.
The Lovers follows Janet, a supermarket worker who doesn't care about anything, and Seamus, a self-centered, political broadcaster, who find themselves inextricably drawn to each other.
Gallagher and Flynn are joined by Conleth Hill (Derry Girls, Holding), Alice Eve (Star Trek Into Darkness), Martin Quinn (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds), Evelyn Miller (Foundation),
Simon Paisley Day (Born a King), and Jenn Murray (Brooklyn). The series is directed by Justin Martin, and produced by Chris Martin. The Lovers is a Sky Original and Drama Republic production.
"The Lovers is a romantic comedy set in Belfast,” Gallagher told RTÉ. “People don't usually associate Belfast with romance. They usually associate it with petrol bombs and sectarian strife.”
"That's all part of the world of The Lovers too but really it’s about a pair of unlikely people falling in love.”
The Lovers premieres tonight on Sky Atlantic and NOW.
