Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves was filmed on location in Northern Ireland with support from Northern Ireland Screen. The film had its world premiere at South by Southwest Film and Television Festival on Friday 10th March.
Adapted from the well-known role-playing boardgame, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves follows a charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers as they undertake an epic heist to retrieve a lost relic. The film was directed by Jonathon Goldstein & John Francis Daley (Game Night), and is being distributed by Paramount Pictures and Entertainment One.
The film was shot at Titanic Studios in 2021, and on location in Tollymore Forest, Ballintoy Beach, Carrickfergus Castle, Castleward and Glenarm Castle, and Seaford Estate. During which time, actors Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page and Hugh Grant spent time in Northern Ireland filming through various phases of Covid restrictions.
“We didn’t want it to be that gritty, grim, medieval look that you see so often,” Director Jonathon Goldstein, told the Hollywood Reporter. “We shot in Northern Ireland, which is one of the greenest places on Earth. It would be a sin to strip it of that natural beauty.”
Director John Francis Daley said of production designer Ray Chan’s ability to find unique characteristics in each shooting location: “None of them felt the same, they all felt like they were coming from different influences.”
The film is released in cinemas in the UK and Ireland on March 31st.
