‘Leonardo’ starring Aidan Turner as the famous renaissance painter, will launch on Amazon Prime Video in the U.K. and Ireland on April 16th.
Created by Frank Spotnitz (The X-Files, The Man in the High Castle, The Medici) and Steve Thompson (Sherlock, Doctor Who) The eight-part drama series starring Turner (Poldark, The Hobbit Trilogy) as the Italian artist, inventor and scientist, explores the enigma and his growth into an era-defining genius.
Turner stars in the series, alongside Freddie Highmore (The Good Doctor, Bates Motel), Giancarlo Giannini (Family Novel), Matilda De Angelis (The Undoing), Carlos Cuevas (Merlì) and James D’Arcy (Homeland).
A graduate of the Gaiety School of Acting, Turner initially appeared in several stage productions with The Abbey Theatre in Dublin. His early screen work included the Clinic for RTE in 2008 and BBC’s acclaimed Being Human in 2009. In 2011, Turner was cast as Kili in Peter Jackson’s film adapataitons of JRR Tolkien’s The Hobbit. From 2015-19, Turner appeared as the titular character in BBC’s hit series Poldark.
Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, Turner said "As we know, Leonardo Da Vinci was a man who created an incredible body of work across so many disciplines. As an actor, to explore the inner workings of this great artist was a very exciting and humbling experience and I feel so fortunate to have worked with such a great team in Rome to make this series happen."

The eight-part biopic series is produced by Lux Vide with Rai Fiction and Big Light Productions, in association with France Télévisions and RTVE, and co-produced and distributed worldwide by Sony Pictures Television.
