BAI and CMF announce reopening of development incentive for audiovisual projects
10 Nov 2017 :
The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) and the Canada Media Fund (CMF) announced today the reopening of their funding incentive for the development of audiovisual projects. The announcement took place at an event during Mediacon in Vancouver, in the presence of Canadian producers and an Irish delegation led by Jim Kelly, Ambassador of the Republic of Ireland to Canada.

Program guidelines, application documents and deadlines for submissions can be found on the BAI website here. The deadline to apply is January 11, 2018.

Both organisations intend to partner for three years to fund co-development projects between producers in Canada and Ireland. The total amount of funding available through the Incentive for this year will be €140,000. The total maximum contribution for each project funded through the Incentive will be €35,000.

The incentive seeks to fund television projects and digital media extensions of such television projects, which fulfill both the guidelines of the CMF and the objectives and themes of BAI’s Sound and Vision Scheme. Projects will be evaluated and chosen by a selection committee composed of representatives from both funding organizations.

For the first iteration of the program in 2016-2017, the BAI and CMF provided €120,000 to finance the co-development of four projects.

Finding an international partner

Producers interested in finding an international partner as part of this development incentive are invited to post a profile of their company on the CMF’s website by clicking here. Profiles will be accessible to all, including potential partners from other countries.

There is currently a range of funding supports and initiatives in place, through which the BAI fulfils this role. Sound & Vision Ancillary Measures, such as the fund outlined above, are provided for under Section 5.6 of the Broadcasting Funding Scheme. These measures are designed and implemented in order to support the achievement of the objectives of the Scheme.
