Break Out Pictures and Conic have partnered to distribute Pat Collins’ latest film in Ireland and the UK. That They May Face The Rising Sun will release theatrically on April 26th, 2024.
That They May Face The Rising Sun is the third feature from Irish director Collins following 2012’s Silence and 2017’s Song Of Granite. The feature is an adaptation of John McGahern’s novel of the same name. Collins also directed a 54-minute documentary about McGahern in 2005, titled John McGahern: A Private World. The film will be distributed by Break Out Pictures in Ireland and Northern Ireland, and Conic will distribute the film in England, Scotland and Wales.
The upcoming film captures a year in the life of a rural, lakeside community in Ireland in the 1970’s, following Joe and Kate Ruttledge who have returned from London to live and work among the small community near to where Joe grew up. The film stars Barry Ward (Jimmy’s Hall) and Anna Bederke (Soul Kitchen) in the lead roles. They are joined by Lalor Roddy (Grabbers), Sean McGinley (Michael Collins), Ruth McCabe (Philomena), and first-time actor Phillip Dolan.
That They May Face The Rising Sun had its World Premiere last October at the BFI London Film Festival, and is set to close the 2024 Dublin International Film Festival on Sunday, 2nd March 2024.
The film was produced by Tina O’Reilly and Brendan J. Byrne, and executive produced by Phillip King, with backing from Fis Eireann/Screen Ireland.
That They May Face The Rising Sun will release theatrically in all territories on April 26th, 2024.
