BAI Issues Call for Applications under Archiving Scheme 2
10 Jul 2019 : News Desk
Broadcasting Authority of Ireland
Applications for funding under Archiving Scheme 2 are now being accepted, with some Ä2.8m available under this support scheme funded through the television licence fee.

Archiving Scheme 2 is a Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) Broadcasting Funding Scheme initiative that aims to encourage and promote the development of an archiving culture in the Irish broadcasting sector, contributing to the safeguarding of Irish heritage.

The focus for this funding round concerns the archiving of programme material with the specific objective of the preservation of a historic record of Irish culture, heritage and experience. Particular focus is paid to that which safeguards historic material that is threatened by fragile physical condition or soon to be obsolete formats.

Commenting, chief executive of the BAI, Michael O’Keeffe said:

“The main objectives of the BAI’s Archiving Scheme 2 are the development of an integrated approach to the archiving of programme material; the development of suitable storage processes and formats to encourage and assist in the restoration and/or storage of recorded material; and to provide for fast and accurate access to programme material by interested parties.

One of the key strategic objectives of the BAI is to increase the availability of culturally relevant audio-visual content for Irish audiences and Archiving Scheme 2 helps us to achieve this aim.”

Applications are open to a range of individuals and institutions, including broadcasters (public, commercial and community); advertisers; persons/institutions in possession of relevant material; persons/institutions capable of carrying out work on archiving material considered to be of value to the State; and persons/institutions capable of furthering Archiving Scheme 2’s objectives. The Scheme is open to eligible applicants making individual submissions and also to parties who wish to work in partnership.

Application guidelines and the application form can be found here.  Applicant queries relating to the Scheme should be directed to archiving@bai.ie.

The closing date for applications is 12 noon on Tuesday, 24th September 2019.
