Out of Orbit Announces Adaptation of Irish Novel 'Harvesting'
21 Nov 2018 : News Desk
The Northern Irish production company is working alongside author Lisa Harding to develop the screen adaptation

‘Derry Girls’ director Michael Lennox is directing the project for Out of Orbit, linking up with producer Brian J. Falconer once again after working together on Oscar-Nominated and Bafta winning short film ‘Boogaloo and Graham’.

‘Harvesting’ - Harding’s debut novel - follows the story of a flourishing bond between two girls thrown together in a Dublin brothel. Inspired by Harding’s involvement with the Children’s Rights Alliance campaign against sex trafficking, the novel details the hidden world that exists in close proximity to polite society, displaying the bluster of youth in the context of dark and heavy subject matter.

Speaking to the Irish Times, Director Michael Lennox said:

“For a book that deals with human trafficking for sexual exploitation, it somehow manages to transcend the ‘heaviness’ of its subject matter, delivering a message of paramount importance while never failing to lose its dramatic grip.”

Falconer added: “I feel very lucky to be part of this wonderful team on this very important project.”

Other features currently on the Out of Orbit slate include Ryan & Andrew Tohill’s ‘The Dig’, which won Best Film at the Galway Film Fleadh in July and Lisa Barros D’Sa & Glenn Leyburn’s ‘Normal People’ starring Liam Neeson and Lesley Manville, which has recently finished principle photography and is currently in post-production.

A release date for ‘The Dig’ has not yet been announced, but is expected to be early 2019.
