Increased funding and BAI new partner for IlDÁNA 2018 with CUMAR announced as 2017 selected project
11 Jun 2018 : Nathan Griffin
TG4 and the Arts Council, in association with Galway Film Centre have announced that the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland has joined as a partner on ilDÁNA 2018. An increased budget of €120,000 has also now been made available by the partners for this landmark documentary.

ilDÁNA is designed to enhance the TG4 schedule by supporting the making of an Irish language, ambitious and cinematic long-form documentary based on an aspect of the arts in Ireland. The film will have a theatrical screening along with a primetime broadcast slot on TG4 and submissions for the 2018 scheme are now open with applications to be sent to Galway Film Centre no later than 17:00 on Thursday, 21 June.

CUMAR’ has been announced as the project selected for the 2017 iLDÁNA commission. ‘CUMAR: An Exploration of Confluence’ is a creative documentary to be directed by Aodh Ó Coileáin and produced by Magamedia. The film, featuring artists from varied fields, will explore Galway as a confluence of creativity and as a nucleus for artistic endeavour. The focus of the film is a visual evaluation of the link between Galway based artists and their environment, and will parse some of the diverse cultural influences that have shaped Galway itself and moulded its artistic culture over time. Long a crossroads of sea, of land, of thought and story, Galway has always been receptive to new influences; the city and county bear the print of so many civilisations and cultures. Some have washed up, many more have blown in, and this concept of artistic and cultural confluence will be explored through the lenses of our artists.

Aodh Ó Coileáin previously directed ‘Fís na Fuiseoige’, which premiered to critical acclaim at the 2016 Dublin International Film Festival and was screened throughout North America, Britain and Europe. Aodh currently teaches Media at Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge in NUI Galway. Magamedia is an independent, award-winning production company whose recent credits include the TV series ‘Eipic’ and the documentaries ‘Noel Hill-Aisling Ghéar and Snaithe’.

The iLDÁNA scheme is an exciting opportunity for documentary filmmakers to make a landmark, cinematic documentary on the arts in Irish.

Speaking about iLDÁNA, TG4’s Commissioning Editor TG4, Proinsias Ní Ghrainne said:

“This examination of the link between the arts and artists in Galway is very timely, on the eve of the City of Culture celebration in 2020. TG4 is delighted to be collaborating with the Arts Council, BAI and Galway Film Centre on this landmark documentary. The promoters of the project have a proven track record in producing top class programmes in a range of genres and I have no doubt they will do the same again with ‘Cumar’.”

It is expected that ‘CUMAR’ will premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh and broadcast on TG4 in 2019.

Maoiniú Breise agus páirtí nua ag ‘iLDÁNA’ 2018 agus tá ‘CUMAR’ atá roghnaithe do choimisiún iLDÁNA 2017

Tá ríméad ar TG4 agus an Chomhairle Ealaíon i gcomhar le hIonad Scannán na Gaillimhe a fhógairt go mbeidh Údarás Craolacháin na hÉireann anois i bpáirt leo ar ilDÁNA 2018. Tá buiséad méadaithe de €120,000 curtha ar fáil anois freisin ag na páirtithe don chlár faisnéise mór seo.

Scéim í ilDÁNA a ceapadh le sceideal TG4 a threisiú trí thacú le fadscannán uaillmhianach faisnéise Gaeilge a chur á dhéanamh bunaithe ar ghnéithe de na healaíona in Éirinn. Taispeánfar an scannán sna pictiúrlanna chomh maith lena chraoladh le linn buaicama ar TG4 agus is féidir aighneachtaí do scéim 2018 a chur isteach anois chuig Ionad Scannán na Gaillimhe. Ní mór iarratais a bheith istigh tráth nach déanaí ná 17:00 Déardaoin an 21 Meitheamh.

Tá ríméad orainn a fhógairt gurb é ‘CUMAR’ an tionscadal atá roghnaithe do choimisiún iLDÁNA 2017. CUMAR: Clár faisnéise é CUMAR: An Exploration of Confluence arna stiúradh ag Aodh Ó Coileáin agus arna léiriú ag Magamedia. Fiosróidh an scannán, ina mbeidh ealaíontóirí ó réimsí éagsúla páirteach, Gaillimh mar chumar cruthaitheachta agus ealaíonta. Measúnú físiúil a bheidh sa scannán ar an gceangal atá ag ealaíontóirí atá lonnaithe i nGaillimh lena dtimpeallacht agus déanfar miondealú ar na tionchair éagsúla cultúir a mhúnlaigh Gaillimh fhéin agus an cultúr ealaíne atá tagtha chun cinn ann. Ina chumar ag muir agus talamh, ina chumar smaointeoireachta agus scéalta, bhí tionchar ag nithe éagsúla agus nua riamh ar Ghaillimh; tá lorg an iomaí sibhialtacht agus cultúr ar an gcathair agus ar an gcontae. Cuid acu a tháinig i dtír, cinn eile a tháinig isteach déanfar an coincheap den chathair mar chumar cultúir agus ealaíon a fhiosrú trí shúile ár n-ealaíontóirí.

Is é Aodh Ó Coileáin a stiúir ‘Fís na Fuiseoige’ a taispeánadh den chéad uair ag Féile Idirnáisiúnta Scannán Bhaile Átha Cliath in 2016 agus a thuill moladh ó lucht léirmheasa. Taispeánadh freisin é ag féilte i Meiriceá, sa Bhreatain agus san Eoraip. Léachtóir leis na Meáin Chumarsáide é Aodh in Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge in Ollscoil na hÉireann Gaillimh. Is comhlacht léiriúchán neamhspleách é Magamedia a bhí i mbun ‘Eipic’ agus na cláracha faisnéise ‘Noel Hill-Aisling Ghéar’ agus ‘Snáithe’ le déanaí.

Deis iontach atá i scéim iLDÁNA do lucht déanta scannán faisnéise tabhairt faoi scannán faisnéise cineamatach faoi na healaíona i nGaeilge.

“Tá sé tráthúil go leor go bhfuiltear leis an gceangal idir na healaíona agus na healaíontóirí i nGaillimh a scrúdú tráth a bhfuil an chathair ag fáil faoi réir do Chathair Chultúir na hEorpa 2020. Tá ríméad ar TG4 dul i mbun comhoibriú leis an gComhairle Ealaíon, an BAI agus Ionad Scannán na Gaillimhe ar an scannán faisnéise mór seo. Tá sé léirithe arís agus arís eile ag tionscnóirí an tionscadail go bhfuil siad ábalta cláir den chéad scoth a chur ar fáil i réimse seánraí agus níl aon amhras orm ach go ndéanfaidh siad an cleas céanna le ‘Cumar’” a deir Proinsias Ní Ghráinne, Eagarthóir Coimisiúnaithe, TG4.

Táthar ag súil CUMAR a thaispeáint den chéad uair ag Fleadh Scannán na Gaillimhe agus a chraoladh ar TG4 in 2019.

Tá na sonraí ar fad faoi bhabhta 2018 de ilDÁNA chomh maith le treoirlínte iarratais le fáil ar www.galwayfilmcentre.ie
