Filmbase Welcome Casting Director Nancy Bishop for Self-Tape Audition Masterclass
14 Nov 2017 :
In this one day masterclass, all participants will have an opportunity to practice their skills in self-taping, which is a crucial part of the international casting process.

Actors will choose from a selection of scenes and self tape themselves in advance. Nancy will give feedback in class for all scenes. This will be followed by special exercises which Nancy has developed to hone strategies for auditioning, including cold reading techniques, and identifying choices and objectives on a new text.

PART 1: Feedback on Self Taped Auditions:

Self-taped auditions are increasingly prevalent in the industry and actors are expected to have the skills to effectively present themselves. Actors will bring a pre-assigned self taped audition that they have taped themselves in advance. Nancy will offer detailed feedback on each clip.

PART 2: Audition Strategy Exercises:

Actors will take part in stimulating exercises designed to develop spontaneity and purpose, in quick-read audition circumstances. Learn new techniques for cold-reading and strategize an approach to audition work.

She was Emmy nominated for Anne Frank, The Whole Story. Beginning as a theatre director in Chicago, she moved to Prague shortly after the Velvet Revolution in Czechoslovakia. Appointed as artistic director of an English language theatre company, she began to help US and European producers and directors with location casting requests. Expanding on this she started to give seminars on the process and demands of casting and auditioning for actors in the internet era. Now having taught classes from Rio de Janeiro to Moscow, she has written two books on auditioning, “Secrets from the Casting Coach,” and “Auditioning for Film and TV” (both published by Bloomsbury/UK). Although she retains a considerable familiarity with talent from Eastern Europe and Russia, on her latest projects in many cases she has been casting actors from all parts of the Globe, for example, from films shooting in the USA to South Africa, Serbia and Turkey she’s particularly active in the UK. She is proud to have been elected by her peers to the CSA national board, and is the interim President of the CSA European Chapter.
