From ‘Loving’ to ‘First Dates Ireland S02': Upcoming Irish Film & Television Releases
04 Jan 2017 : Katie McNeice
With what has been celebrated as a landmark year in terms of film and TV production in Ireland, there are some big titles crafted in Ireland and featuring homegrown talent due to release in the coming months.

On New Year’s Day ‘A Monster Calls’ narrated by Liam Neeson joined the list of films currently showing in Irish cinemas, with Sarah Greene also among the leading cast members in new CBS drama ‘Ransom.’

Legal drama 'Striking Out' starring Amy Huberman and Neil Morrissey was one of the first homegrown dramas to premiere on small screens this year, with the series also airing on RTÉ One on January 1st. It is produced for RTÉ by Katie Holly and Yvonne Donohoe of Blinder Films.

NBC drama ‘Emerald City’ will debut Friday, January 6th with Irish Cinematographers Colm Watkinson (Entourage) and Richard Donnelly (Mars) on board the latest adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s classic children’s story ‘The Wizard of Oz.’

Loving
Due to release to cinemas on February 3rd is ‘Loving’ from Jeff Nichols—the feature film which has garnered international acclaim for Irish talent Ruth Negga since its screening at Cannes 2016.

Negga’s performance as Mildred Loving is also hoped to earn her an Oscar nomination when the official nominee list is announced on January 24th. ‘Loving’ is distributed in Ireland by Universal Pictures.

An Klondike Season 2
Ireland’s first Western created and directed by Daithí Keane and produced by Abú Media is returning to TG4 on Wednesday, February 1st, starring Dara Devaney, Owen McDonnell and Seán T. Ó Meallaigh.

Visit the official An Klondike website to see how the world of the Klondike was recreated in Connemara.

Dancing with the Stars
The new series co-presented by Amanda Byram and Nicky Byrne from ShinAwil will come to RTÉ One from Saturday, January 8th. The line-up includes comedians Katherine Lynch and Des Bishop, model Thalia Heffernan, RTÉ reporter Teresa Mannion, sports broadcaster Des Cahill and Dr. Eva Orsmond.

First Dates Season 2
In a follow up to the hugely popular and IFTA-winning first season from COCO Television, the second season will return in late January on RTÉ 2.
