‘Punky’ Wins Best Children’s Film at International Disability Film Festival
19 Nov 2014 : Seán Brosnan
Irish animated series ‘Punky’ has won the Best Children’s Film award at the International Disability Film Festival in Moscow.

‘Punky’ is the first television series in the world featuring a lead character with Down Syndrome. The International Disability Film Festival was attended by Aimee Richardson, the voice of Punky who herself has Down Syndrome.

The series follows ‘Punky’, a happy little girl with bright red hair, a big smile and Down Syndrome. She enjoys playing with her big brother Con and her scruffy dog, Rufus and helping round the house with her mother.

Producer Gerard O’Rourke said: ‘As a producer I am so happy for our stakeholders The Irish Film Board , RTE and BAI , they made this happen and went again with season two, all credit to them.’

‘Punky’ is produced by Geronimo Productions and created by Lindsay J. Sedgwick. The series has been sold internationally and broadcasts in Ireland on RTÉ. It was funded by Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board, the BAI and RTÉ.
