Winners of 2014 Annual John Moore Short Film Award announced

The Section of Creative Media in DKIT has announced the winners of the 2014 Annual John Moore Film Award, which was presented on Thursday 30th Oct after the students' graduation ceremony to the makers of the 1970’s-set short ‘And Out of War I Saw A Smile’.

This award is given to the best short film made by students on the third or fourth year of the BA & BA (Hons) in Video & Film Production, as chosen by Director John Moore.

A Dundalk native, John Moore attended Dublin Institute of Technology and studied Film & Broadcasting. After graduating, he wrote and directed a series of short films in Ireland and went on to direct several commercials, one of which brought him to the notice of 20th Century Fox. To date, Moore has made several films for 20th Century Fox, including ‘Behind Enemy Lines’ (2001), ‘Flight of the Phoenix’ (2004), ‘The Omen’ (2006), ‘Max Payne’ (2008) and most recently ‘A Good Day to Die Hard’ (2013).

The winning film - 'And Out of War I Saw a Smile' - was directed by Conor Heavey.

The film is set in 1970s Ireland and its main character is Jack, a former soldier suffering from PTSD. Out of war and living with his wife and children in peace, Jack must struggle and persevere on a daily basis with scars that have been left permanently on the mind of this broken man.
