13 Feb 2014 : Aisling Newton
Over the next two weeks directors, producers and top industry names will descend on Dublin for the 12th annual Jameson Dublin International Film Festival (JDIFF).

The festival kicks off with John Michael McDonagh’s ‘Calvary’ starring Brendan Gleeson, Chris O’Dowd and Kelly Reilly. After its international premieres at Sundance and Berlin, ‘Calvary’ will be hoping to secure Irish appraisal at Dublin’s Savoy Cinema. Gleeson, McDonagh, Dave McSavage and Domhnall Gleeson will all be in attendance for the opening.

Irish comedy ‘The Stag’, starring Andrew Scott and Amy Huberman, is to receive its debut as the festival’s closing film. Both actors will make appearances at the festival, as will screenwriter Peter Morgan (The Queen, Frost/Nixon, Rush), who will give a screenwriting masterclass at 4pm on Friday 14th in the Light House Cinema.

‘The Grand Hotel Budapest’ (Wes Anderson) will have its Irish premiere starring Saoirse Ronan, along with Vico Films’ ‘The Devil's Pool’, directed by visual artist Cecily Brennan. The film was commissioned under the Arts Council's Reel Art Scheme.

Samson Films will also have two films at JDIFF, ‘Run & Jump’ and ‘Stay’, which is a Canadian-Irish co-production starring Brian Gleeson, Carrie Crowley, Barry Keoghan (Love/Hate) and Nika McGuigan (The Food Guide to Love).

‘The Last Day On Mars’ is a new science fiction thriller and the debut feature film of Irish director Ruairí Robinson (Fifty Percent Grey). The film stars Liev Schreiber, Romola Garai and Olivia Williams, and will screen in Cineworld on February 17th at 9.00pm. Animation studio Cartoon Saloon’s ‘The Ledge End of Phil’ will feature at the festival.

Niall Heery’s ‘Gold’, produced by Subotica Entertainment with Aoife O’ Sullivan and Tristan Orpen Lynch, which featured at the Berlin Film Festival last week, will be screened on February 22nd at 6.30pm in Savoy 2. Joanne O’Riordan’s ‘No Limbs No Limits’, directed by her brother Steven, will screen on Saturday 15th February at the Odeon.

Former Boyzone Ronan Keating will unveil his debut feature film, ‘Goddess’, in Cineworld on Saturday 22nd February at 6.30pm.

Other films that will feature at JDIFF include ‘Big Sur’, ‘Mystery Road’, ‘Come Into The Gardens’, ‘A Long Way From Home’, ‘Strange By The Lake’, ‘A Long Way Down’, ‘A Food Guide To Love’, ‘Pyrotechnics and Pistols’ and ‘Out of Here’.

The festival venues include Cineworld, The Savoy, Screen, Irish Film Institute and Light House Cinema in Smithfield Square, which will host most of the action over the festival period.
