Friday December 13th will see Dublin’s Light House Cinema host an informative session on a new initiative designed to strengthen cross border ties in Europe’s creative media industries, dubbed 'Creative Europe'.
Replacing the existing MEDIA, MEDIA Mundus and Culture programmes, Creative Europe was approved by the European parliament on November 19th and will facilitate a total budget of €1.4 billion to enhance further evolution of creative collaboration in Europe, to be distributed over six years spanning 2014 -2020. While encompassing all creative arts, the MEDIA sub-programme of Creative Europe in particular will continue to address the continent’s ever-expanding audio-visual industry.
Included in the new programme will be a cross-sectoral strand featuring a new financial Guarantee fund for the cultural and creative industries, to be initiated after 2014.
Particular areas of focus for the MEDIA sub-programme going into next year will be audience development, the fostering of further co-productions between Europe and the wider world, and the stimulation of Europe’s video-game industry.
All industry professionals interested in how the new Creative Europe programme could potentially affect Ireland’s creative industries are invited to attend the informative session, run by MEDIA Desk Ireland on December 13th from 9.30 – 11 am.
Places are limited so attendees are encouraged to RSVP to info2@mediadesk.ie by Friday December 6th.
