Irish representation is strong among the nominees for this year’s TV Choice Awards, set to take place in London in September, with seven nominations in total for Irish programmes, stars and co-productions.
‘Mrs Brown's Boys’, starring Brendan O’Carroll as the foul-mouthed Irish matriarch, is nominated for Best Comedy series.
Bandon native Graham Norton is nominated for Best Entertainment for BBC’s ‘The Graham Norton Show’ - fresh from his win at the Bafta awards in the same category.
Dublin actor Emmett J Scanlan - star of ‘Charlie Casanova’ which was nominated for four IFTA awards last year - is nominated for Best Soap Actor for Channel 4’s ‘Hollyoaks’.
In the Best Drama category, Dublin-filmed ‘Ripper Street’ goes head to head with Belfast-shot serial killer drama ‘The Fall’, an Artists Studio/BBC Northern Ireland co-production funded by Northern Ireland Screen.
‘Downton Abbey’ star Brendan Coyle - whose father was Irish and who holds joint Irish/UK citizenship - is nominated as Best Actor for his performance as John Bates.
Finally, ‘Game of Thrones’ - which is largely filmed at Paint Hall Studio in Belfast and part funded by Northern Ireland Screen - is nominated for Best International Series.
Winners will be announced in London on Monday 9th September - with online voting open to the public until Friday 12th July here.
