Irish actor Allen Leech has begun filming feature film ‘Grand Piano’ alongside Elijah Wood and John Cusack.
The feature, from Spanish director Eugenio Mira, is currently filming in Barcelona, before moving to locations in Gran Canaria and Chicago.
The psychological thriller sees Wood (Lord of the Rings), a former world class pianist, forced to return to the stage after chronic stage fright forces him into a five-year hiatus. John Cusack (The Raven) plays the psychopath who forces Wood back on stage after threatening him and his family.
It is not yet known what character Leech is playing, but the Killiney-native has fast been clocking up roles outside of Ireland since his portrayal of Irish rebel Tom Branson in Julian Fellowes’ period drama ‘Downton Abbey’, which returned to ITV on Sunday and will be broadcast by TV3 tomorrow night (September 19).
As well as ‘Downton Abbey’, Leech can currently be seen in British feature ‘The Sweeney’, starring alongside Ray Winstone and rapper Plan B. Other recent jobs include a role in Charlie Brooker’s ‘Black Mirror’, which Domnhall Gleeson was recently cast in.
Tamsin Egerton (Chalet Girl), Alex Winter (Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure) Kerry Bishé (Argo) and Don McManus (Lovelace) all feature in ‘Grand Piano’.
Adrian Guerra and Rodrigo Cortes of Barcelona’s Nostromo Pictures, which produced ‘Red Lights’, starring Cillian Murphy, will produce ‘Grand Piano’. Damien Chazelle (Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench) wrote the script. ‘Grand Piano’ is slated for a 2013 release.
Season three of ‘Downton Abbey’ returns to TV3 tomorrow night at 10pm.
