Brown Bag Films’ ‘The Octonauts’ and Boulder Media/Dandelion Studios/Cartoon Network’s ‘The Amazing World of Gumball’ have both received nominations for the 2011 British Academy Children’s Awards Nominees.
Brown Bag Films’ ‘The Octonauts’ has been nominated in the category of Pre-School Animation and faces competition from ‘Peppa Pig’, ‘Little Princess’ and ‘Rastamouse’. The IFTA nominated series launched on Cbeebies in the UK in October 2010 and will show on Disney in the US in 2012.
Other Irish projects nominated for the prestigious awards include ‘The Amazing World of Gumball’ which has nabbed a spot in the category for Animation alongside Nick Toon’s ‘Grizzly Tales’ and CBBC’s ‘Muddle Earth’ and ‘Pet Squad’. The series follows Gumball, a hyper-active 10-year old cat, who is trying to squeeze as much fun as possible out of every second of his life.
‘The Amazing World of Gumball’ is produced for Turner Broadcasting’s Cartoon Network by Dandelion Studios Ltd in association with Irish company Boulder Media Ltd and Germany’s Studio Soi. Boulder Media’s Emmy nominated Robert Cullen (Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends) is director of animation for the series. ‘The Amazing World of Gumball’ writers James Lamont and Jon Foster were also nominated for their work on the series.
The BAFTA Children’s Awards winners will be announced at the ceremony on Sunday November 27th in London. To view the full list of nominations, click here.
