The Dundalk born director and IFTA member John Moore has been chosen by 20th Century Fox to helm the fifth instalment of the world famous action franchise, ‘Die Hard 5’, which is expected to shoot in Russia.
John Moore has directed a string of high profile 20th Century Fox action features including ‘Behind Enemy Lines’, ‘Flight of the Phoenix’ and US box office topper ‘Max Payne’. His movies have grossed a third of a billion dollars in the worldwide box office.
The American action 'Die Hard' franchise first hit cinema screens in 1988 following action hero John McClane. The fifth instalment will be released in 2012.
John Moore was home in Dublin last week to lead an Irish Film & Television Academy Masterclass. The IFTA Masterclass was facilitated by director Ian Power (The Runway). Speaking at the event, John Moore commented on the box-office success of action films, saying "People have voted - they want story. And they want action with their story. Audiences get a hit of adrenaline from action sequences. I don't see why story and action have to be mutually exclusive."
