Latest in Irish short film news - ‘2 Tonne Hands’ at Rhode Island International Film Festival (RIIFF) and principle photography finished on Monaghan short ‘Lose the Booze’.
2 Tonne Hands
Irish short ‘2 Tonne Hands’ will screen at the Oscar qualifying Rhode Island Film Festival this August. Directed by and starring Liam Clarke, the film follows a shy, young Polish builder who is stranded and lost in Ireland after losing his job. Separated by his wife and child and without friends, he applies his big awkward hands to using music to help turn his life around. ‘2 Tonne Hands’ previously picked up a Bronze Palm at The Mexico International Film Festival and a Silver Medal at Park City Film Music Festival in Utah.
Emma Jacobs of the Financial Times called the short a “compelling, Irish gem,” with Del Weston, founder of the Action on Film Festival, California, commenting ”…not only is the storyline relevant and heart-warming, but the music is absolutely bone-chilling.” Music in the short was composed by Hannah Marshall.
Sponsored by Culture Ireland, ‘2 Tonne Hands’ will be showcased at the 15th annual Flickers: Rhode Island International Film Festival (RIFF) running August 9th to 14th. The short was produced by Liam Clarke and Pauline Collet, with Daniel Doyle as Director of Photography. ‘2 Tonne Hands’ was filmed over four days in Dublin with no budget. Lose the Booze
Monaghan based Stony Grey Films have recently finished principal photography on their debut short ‘Lose The Booze’, which was filmed in the Bragan Mountains of County Monaghan on the 7th and 8th August. The short is written and produced by Declan Reynolds (Jack, Social Work) with Ronan Connolly co-producing and Damien Byrne as executive producer.
‘Lose the Booze’ centres on two estranged friends (Dermot and Seamie) who wake up the morning-after-the-night-before in the mountains in a stolen delivery truck, a full load of beer kegs and no clue how to undo the mess they are in. When they run into the local Garda, they need to put their differences aside and think fast how to lose the booze. It is directed by James Mulholland (What If?) and shot on Canon 5D and JVC HM-700 HD-Pro by Gregory Murphy.
The film stars Patrick Goldman (Puff, Spoon), Declan Reynolds (Puffball, Seer), Pat Deery (Leap Year, Puffball), Mark Holland and newcomer Roisin Treanor. Producers told IFTN they hope the short will have its premiere at Clones Film Festival in Co. Monaghan this autumn. For more information visit the facebook page: here .
