The Toronto Film Festival today unveiled a slate of Canadian Films to be screened at the festival this September, including the North American Premiere of Irish-Canadian co-production ‘The Moth Diaries’.
‘The Moth Diaries’ is a gothic horror written and directed by Mary Harron (American Psycho) and co-produced with Irish production company Samson Films. David Collins (Cairo Time) of Samson produced the feature alongside Sandra Cunningham (Being Julia) of Strada Films and Karine Martin of Mediamax.
‘The Moth Diaries’ was chosen to screen as part of the Special Presentation programme at the Toronto Festival which is designed to showcase “crowd pleasing Films made by some of the most sought after directors working today.”
Based on Rachel Klein’s cult novel of the same name, ‘The Moth Diaries’ stars IFTA winning actress Sarah Bolger (The Tudors), Lily Cole (The Rage), Sarah Gadon (A Dangerous Method) and Scott Speedman (Underworld). It tells the story of a teenage girl at a boarding school who suspects her roommate is a vampire. ‘The Moth Diaries’ will also screen at the 68th Venice Film Festival which takes place from August 31st to September 10th 2011.
It was announced in late July that the Toronto Film Festival will also host the world premiere of Parallel Films co-production ‘Albert Nobbs’. The festival will open with David Guggenheim’s U2 documentary ‘From the Sky Down’.
The 36th Toronto International Film Festival will take place from September 8th-18th 2011 in Ontario, Canada. For more information visit www.tiff.net.
