IFTA nominated Irish producer Tristan Orpen Lynch (Song for a Raggy Boy, Night Train) is one of 12 European producers chosen to take part in the Producers Lab Toronto. Now in its second year, the Producers Lab Toronto will see a group of 12 European and 12 Canadian producers meeting from 7-10 September within the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival for an opportunity to gain knowledge about international markets and to identify the potential for concrete Canadian-European co-productions.

Tristan Orpen Lynch is co-founder of Subotica Films, and has produced the IFTA winning ‘Song for A Raggy Boy’, alongside other titles such as ‘Night Train’, ‘The Daisy Chain’, ‘On The Nose’ and co-produced the upcoming ‘Perfect Sense’ starring Ewan McGregor and Eva Green. Tristan Orpen Lynch was nominated Irish Producer on the Move at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival. Last year Irish producer Martina Niland (Once) from Samson Films Ltd. & Accomplice TV was chosen for the Producers Lab Toronto.

The European Film Promotion (EFP) has collaborated with the Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC) and the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) to create the Producers Lab Toronto, which will be a platform to combine the creative, technical and financial energy of European and Canadian producers. The Producers Lab Toronto will include pitching sessions, case studies, roundtables and VIP networking events. All 12 European participants have attended EFP’s Cannes-based programme Producers on the Move.

The Producers Lab Toronto is financially supported by the MEDIA Mundus programme of the EU, the participating EFP member organisations, the OMDC and TIFF.

"For us, Producers Lab Toronto is a perfect follow-up of our programme in Cannes", says Renate Rose, EFP managing director. "It gives access to talent and financial sources outside of Europe and facilitates global exchange and international collaboration. The feedback from last year's group underscored the mandate of this networking platform. A first co-production contract was sealed and many very concrete projects are being discussed at this time with contracts about to be signed."

Recent Irish Canadian co-productions include Mary Harron’s ‘The Moth Diaries’, which will be screened out of competition at this year’s Venice Film Festival from August 31st-September 10th.
