Big Mountain Productions’ four part documentary ‘The Tenements’ airs Wednesday 3rd August at 9.30pm on TV3.
The 4x45 minute documentary will be presented by Bryan Murray (Fair City) and will explore the history of Dublin's slums. Guided by experts including Catriona Crowe, Senior Archivist at the National Archives of Ireland and Diarmaid Ferriter, Professor of Modern Irish history at University College Dublin, Bryan uses the 1911 census and record from the night of one house No 7 Henrietta St to tell the history of the overcrowded, disease ridden Dublin slums. The doc also looks at the landlords behind these appalling dwellings, who were often local Catholic landowners and not, as is usually supposed, Anglo-Irish aristocrats.
The series is produced and directed by BAFTA winner Jeff Morgan (Ape-Man), with Jane Kelly and Philip McGovern executive producing for Big Mountain, and Ben Frow executive producing for TV3. The doc was shot on digibeta by Colin Skinner (Mental: A History of the Madhouse). It filmed in Dublin’s Henrietta Street from November 2010 to February 2011 and was edited by Paul Giles (Rip Off Republic). The documentary received funding from the BAI.
The first episode of ‘The Tenements’ will air on TV3 on Wednesday August 3rd at 9.30pm.
