'The Guard' Screening in Sarajevo
06 Jul 2011 :
The Guard
The 17th annual Sarajevo Film Festival presents the Panorama selection which includes John Michael McDonagh’s debut feature ‘The Guard’. The Panorama films are selected to represent geographical, ideological and formal diversity through quality filmmaking.

The Sarajevo selection includes a range of films from countries including Egypt, USA, Denmark, Mexico, India and Russia. Since 2010, the Panorama (fiction), which began in 1999, and Panorama Documentaries have been combined into one umbrella Panorama with both fiction and docs at the festival.

John Michael McDonagh’s directorial debut will be screened at this week’s Galway Film Fleadh on July 6th ahead of its Irish nationwide release on July 8th. ‘The Guard’ focuses on the eccentric West of Ireland small town cop Sgt. Gerry Boyle (Brendan Gleeson) who is teamed up with FBI agent Wendell Everett (Don Cheadle) to help unravel a drug-smuggling operation in the West of Ireland.

The 17th annual Sarajevo Film Festival will take place from the 22nd to the 30th July, 2011. The festival attracts over 100,000 visitors annually, and represents a platform for development of film business in Bosnia Herzegovina and in the region.
