‘Collaboration Horizontale’ was awarded second prize in the Best Documentary Short category of Palm Springs International ShortFest. Palm Springs is the largest short film festival and market in North America having screened 331 short films throughout the festival and with over 3,000 filmmaker submissions available in the film market.
The Fastnet Film Production is written and directed by Ciaran Cassidy (Fuil & Dúch). ‘Collaboration Horizontale’ is the French term describing a French woman who has had sexual relations with a soldier of an occupying force. In 1944, photographer Robert Capa captured an image of a women who had her head shaven and holding a baby. She was being taunted by crowds following her relationship with a German soldier to whom she bore the child. The documentary aims to tell the story of the women in the picture and to answer the question of what happened to the child born at a crossroads in history.
It was produced by Morgan Bushe for Fastnet Films as part of the IFB Reality Bites scheme and premiered at last years Cork Film Festival. Audio post was carried out by Gorilla Post Production. The award at Palm Springs was a Jury Category Award for Best Documentary.
