The Kerry Film Festival 2011, taking place from October 29th to November 5th, is inviting entries for short films in categories such as Best Irish Film, Best International Film, Best Documentary Film and Best Animated Film.
In addition to the festival’s short film screenings the KFF will also present the Maureen O’Hara awards to a woman that has excelled in film, in 2010 actress Juliette Binoche received the honour.
The KFF has grown in recent years with an audience of 10,000 in 2010. The focus of the festival is on young, up-and-coming filmmakers. Director of the KFF Jason O’Mahony explains that “because the film making process is such an expensive one, and because the money for film making is so tightly controlled, most directors cut their teeth on the short film format.” . The festival offers cash prizes to the category winners. KFF has previously premiered successful shorts such as ‘The Crush’ in 2009 which was short listed for an Oscar.
Closing date for submissions is August 1st. For more information and to download an application form, log onto www.kerryfilmfestival.com.
