‘Lucky Run’ has been voted the winner of the 2011 Storyland, RTÉ’s online drama series competition.
Directed by Colm Cafferkey and co-produced by Deirdre de Grae and Eamon de Staic of Capaillín Bán, 'Lucky Run' is a drama set in Tuam, County Galway. Robbie Dolan enjoyed a life without consequences until his most recent chemical indulgence left him fumbling in the darkest crevices of his home town. Now he's got 48 hours to repay a finger-chopping gangster €5000 and prevent his train-wreck of a life from steamrolling into the fireworks factory. The drama is a a Capaillín Bán Teo production. Camerman for the production was Trevor Laffey.
Voting closed on 31st May and winner was announced on the Storyland website today. Co-producer Eamon de Staic, who also developed and co-wrote 'Lucky Run' commented on the win. "We were delighted just to make it to the final and to get to make the fourth episode because we wrote it as a series with a narrative arch. To win is amazing." Eamon also praised Tuam, the location of 'Lucky Run': "The people of Tuam were very supportive. We used some as actors for smaller roles and we will be back."
Other finalists were Ivan McMahon’s ‘The Outlaw Concy Ryan’ and Liam Hourican, David Stone and David Crann’s dark comedy, ‘The Last Security Man’.
This year’s installment of the RTÉ competition launched in September 2010 with 91 scripts whittled down to eight finalists of which 'Lucky Run' has been voted overall winner.
