Setanta Sports to Cut 10% of Employees
27 May 2011 :
Irish Sport Broadcaster Setanta Sports is set to lose 10% of its staff in the month of June. A 30 day Consultation has begun with staff to devise a restructuring plan for the broadcaster to keep Setanta Ireland breaking even. This will inevitably include a reduction in the headcount, although the management tell IFTN they are “committed to working with staff during this period to minimise the impact on employment levels.”

Currently Setanta Ireland employs 150 staff at its Dublin location and they expect to reduce the number by a maximum of 15 throughout June. A spokesman from Setanta tells us that “Setanta Sports are trading well at the moment but unfortunately cost reductions are necessary and this will affect a small number of staff.” A voluntary redundancy scheme will be available to current staff members.

Setanta Sports Ireland is Ireland’s only dedicated Sports Broadcaster and airs content such as the Premier League, the FA Cup, National League GAA and Magners League Rugby. In a final comment, the broadcaster spokesperson stated that: “This process will not impact on the company’s two channels in Ireland and it will be business as usual during the period.”
