This year’s three RTÉ Storyland finalists have been announced. The projects shortlisted include ‘Lucky Run’; ‘The Outlaw Concy Ryan’ and ‘The Last Security Man’. The three teams remaining will now go into production on their final webisodes which will be uploaded on May 25th with this year’s winner being announced on June 1st.
The online series that have made it into the Storyland final include Liam Hourican, David Stone and David Crann’s ‘The Last Security Man’, a dark comedy about the unlikely friendship between a college drop-out and a psychotic Belgian security guard; Colm Cafferkey’s ‘Lucky Run’, a drama set in a small town in the West of Ireland where lead character Robbie has 48 hours to repay a finger-chopping gangster €5000 and prevent his train-wreck of a life from steamrolling into the fireworks factory and Ivan McMahon’s ‘The Outlaw Concy Ryan’ is a Limerick-based mockumentary that follows proud Moyhill native Concy Ryan as he struggles to preserve his way of life in the face of a new government initiative to regenerate the area.
Created in 2008, Storyland is an online drama competition which offers new talent the opportunity to develop a drama series online. Over the last three months eight shortlisted dramas have battled it out episode-by-episode with the public voting for which dramas they want to be given the opportunity to make subsequent episodes.
The final instalment of each of the series will be uploaded on to www.rte.ie/stroyland on Wednesday 25th May, where the public can then vote for the overall winner of Storyland 2011. The winner will be announced on Wednesday, June 1st.
