Stage and screen actress, Anne Bushnell died on Thursday, April 21st at the age of 72 following a battle with cancer. The Irish personality was diagnosed with cancer eight months ago and died peacefully in Tallaght Hospital.
Born Anne Kavanagh in South Dublin, the actress and singer is best known for her tours of Dublin’s cabaret circuit in Dublin in the late Sixties. Her work also saw her perform with the RTE Light Orchestra, as well as concerts with the late Joe Dolan and Ronnie Drew. She is also well known for her show ‘The Little Sparrow’ where she interpreted the songs of the French chanteuse, Edith Piaf.
Later on in her career the IFTA member hosted an RTÉ entertainment show entitled ‘Girls Girls Girls’ and had a weekly residency in the Leeson Street nightclub Bojangles. She also sang with the Jim Doherty Band and headlined Noel Pearson’s show, ‘Jacques Brel’. She also branched into Irish film with an appearance in Anjelica Huston’s ‘Agnes Brown’.
Anne is survived by her husband, Tony; her children, Paul and Suzanne; her brothers, John and Peter and her sister Phyllis. Reposing at Massey Brothers Funeral Home, Templeogue Village, Anne’s removal will take place on Tuesday, April 26th in Terenure College Church, arriving at 11am for Service. Her funeral will take place immediately afterwards in Mount Jerome Crematorium.
