Sony has introduced two new additions to its professional NXCAM range. The NEX-FS100E is a new E-mount professional camcorder equipped with a Super 35mm motion picture sensor. The HXR-NX70E is the world’s first rain and dust proof professional HD camcorder and both will be available from late Summer onwards.
Originally announced in November 2010, the group’s NEX-FS100E is equipped with an ‘Exmor’ Super 35 CMOS Sensor specifically designed for shooting motion pictures, commercials and music videos. The camcorder boasts a high sensitivity and large format which is sensor capable of producing footage with shallow depth of field. At a high 50fps in all-pixel scan mode the camera’s engineers aimed for images to be captured with less colour aliasing, jaggedness and rolling shutter than regular DSLR cameras, while providing the sensitivity to shoot at a minimum illumination of 0.28lux.
The NEX-FS100E adopts the Sony E-mount interchangeable lens system. It incorporates a very short flange back distance and is also possible to attach a huge range of other lenses, using third-party mount adaptors. The NEX-FS100EK lens kit model comes supplied with the E18-200mm F3.5-6.3 OSS zoom Lens.
Where Sony’s HXR-NX70E is concerned, the camera’s main unit has been proven to reach dust-proof and rain-proof performance requirements specified by IEC60529 IP54. The camera, featuring a 96GB internal memory, incorporates an ‘Exmor R’ CMOS sensor to deliver high quality low-light footage and enhanced manual controls. Other features of the piece include CinemaTone technology which allows for deeper toned footage; optical SteadyShot image stabilisation with Active Mode, which aims to compensate for large degrees of camera shake and a built in GPS receiver.
Tentative prices have been released for the Irish market and see the NEX-FS100E come in at approximately FS100E = €5,500 with the NEX-FS100EK lens kit priced at €6,000.
