The submissions deadline for the 2011 ICCL Human Rights Film Awards is fast approaching, those wishing to enter their projects have until Friday, April 15th to do so.
Individual film students, filmmakers, and/ or those with a strong interest in human rights are invited to submit their original short film focusing on a particular human rights issue in or related to Ireland.
The annual awards, hosted by the Irish Council for Civil Liberties (ICCL), looks to provide film students, filmmakers and those working in human rights with an opportunity to contribute to human rights discourse in Ireland and to examine issues which affect some of the most vulnerable members of Irish society through the medium of film.
This year’s awards jury boasts Irish filmmaking talent in the shape of actress Victoria Smurfit (About a Boy); writer and director Kirsten Sheridan (August Rush) and feature doc filmmaker, Ken Wardrop (His & Hers)
The 2011 competition aims to continue a trend of introducing new categories, while also widening its reach to younger people in second-level education, with the incorporation a new ‘Human Rights in Under a Minute Challenge’ and Human Rights Film Awards Schools Project.
